Following the success of the inaugural Music Festival in 2009, Amanyara will again play host to a group of eight musicians, offering several opportunities for local Turks and Caicos Islands residents and hotel guests to enjoy the world-class talents.

Combing musical styles ranging from jazz and Latin to classical and Broadway standards, the eight musicians will treat guests to several unique concerts.

The Musicians

The star-studded group features eight amazing individuals who bring together a unique combination of instruments and musical characters. They include violinist/trombonist Eddie Venegas, viola player Orlando Wells and cellist David Gotay of the contemporary string quartet Sweet Plantain.

Pianist and conductor Scott Dunn has led a multitude of renowned orchestras like the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, the Pittsburgh and UCLA operas and the Lord of the Rings Symphony. Bassist Mat Fieldes excels in the varying styles of jazz, hip-hop, Broadway and classical, and has collaborated with greats such as John Cale, Ornette Coleman, Sufjan Stevens, Arturo Sandaval and many more.

Clarinetist Igor Begelman is a winner of the Avery Fisher Career Grant for a young clarinetist and previously a featured soloist with the Houston, Savannah and New Haven symphonies. Violinist Peter Krysa has performed at the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory, Alice Tully Hall, Merkin Hall and Carnegie Hall. Last but not least, bassoonist Larisa Gelman has been a featured soloist with the Brooklyn Symphony and the Broadway Bach Ensemble.

The Events

It is not often that such amazing artists and culture can be enjoyed, let alone on Providenciales. It is for this reason that the program was expanded by popular demand.

Amanyara is extending this year’s festival to include three unique opportunities to enjoy the musicians in different settings and with different musical themes.

The music festival weekend will begin Thursday, June 3, with a Piano Recital by Scott Dunn at Stargazer Villa from 6:30-8 p.m. Tickets can be purchased for $50, which includes a pre-concert cocktail and canapes.

On Friday, June 4, the entire ensemble will come together for an unforgettable Jazz Concert, Dinner & Auction at the Amanyara Resort. The Jazz Concert will be followed by dinner with a Mediterranean-style menu in the intimate setting of one of the exclusive Villas at Amanyara. The evening will begin around sunset with a 6:30 p.m. pre-concert cocktail reception. The Jazz Concert will begin at 7 p.m., followed at 8 p.m. by dinner. Tickets are $150. A cash bar will be available from 10-11 p.m.

As a special treat, an auction will give guests the opportunity to bid on a pair of “money-can’t-buy” VIP tickets to U2’s July 9 concert in Miami, paired with a one-night stay at The Setai hotel in South Beach. The prize includes preferred seating, two-hour pre-concert a VIP cocktail reception, a backstage tour, a parking pass and a gift package.

To round out the program on Saturday, June 5, Amanyara will host a Classical Music Concert and Dinner again in the intimate setting of an Amanyara Villa. Similar to the night before, the evening will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a pre-concert cocktail reception with hors d’oeuvres, followed by the Classical Concert from 7-8 p.m. Dinner will then feature an Asian-inspired menu. Tickets are $150. A cash bar will be available from 10-11 p.m.).

Proceeds from the Stargazer piano recital as well as those raised during the U2 VIP Ticket auction, will be donated to the Oseta Jolly Primary School’s music program to foster local musical talent. Space is limited at all events, so it is advised to call early to reserve tickets. With Stargazer Villa and Amanyara Villas as the backdrops, concerts are sure to be both a pleasure for the eye as well as the ear.
