Continuing its support of youth and education, FortisTCI gave $10,000 to the Ministry of Education, Youth, Culture and Sports to ensure students countrywide have the opportunity to take part and represent their schools in this year’s Science Fair.

This is the second year that ForitsTCI has signed on to assist with making this scholastic event a success, and the company hopes to continue supporting the effort.

“FortisTCI is an avid fan of education,” said Vice President of Corporate and Customer Services Allan Robinson. “We are constantly looking for outlets that promote the study of science and math. So as you can imagine, it is important to us that we are a part of bringing together young scholars in the Turks and Caicos Islands for that purpose.”

Organizers expect to see an array of displays this year from students under the theme “Students of the TCI — Exploring the Scientific Method.”

“Students are excited about their projects, and that is what makes this such a big deal,” Director of Education Edgar Howell said. “We are inspiring students to learn and nurturing those young minds who are curious about the way in which the world around them works.”

The contribution will be used to purchase project tools and supplies, travel and stay for students and teachers participating from neighbouring islands, meals through the course of the two-day event, as well as awards and prizes.

The fair will take place March 7-8 in downtown Providenciales at the Gustarvus Lightbourne Sports Complex. It is  open to the public at no cost.
FortisTCI also presented ministry officials with a framed copy of Fortis’ 2012 calendar entitled “National Symbols of the Turks and Caicos Islands.” The calendar is available free for customers at Fortis headquarters.
