Progressive National Party Leader Dr. Rufus Ewing and party caretaker member Royal Robinson traveled to London on July 25 for a series of engagements with U.K. overseas territories leaders, Caribbean heads of government and U.K. officials at the invitation of Minister and Foreign Secretary William Hague. Ewing and Robinson expect to meet with Allan Duncan of the Department for International Development to discuss topics such as the Chief Financial Officer Bill, DFID’s $260 million loan guarantee and the newly approved value-added tax. “This meeting gives us an opportunity to engage persons with whom as a government we will need to know in order to hit the ground running on day one,” Ewing said. “These meetings will also provide the opportunity to build solidarity with Caribbean heads of government many of whom would be attending at the invitation of the United Kingdom.” People’s Democratic Movement Leader Oswald Skippings also was invited to attend the meetings but was unable to attend because of last minute scheduling conflicts.
